Western Rly ensures suitable arrangements for crowd management
The Foot Over Bridge on the south side of Kandivali station has been closed from 12th April, 2018 to 31st July, 2018. During this time passengers have been advised to use the North FOB, Middle FOB and South side MCGM FOB.
According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar- Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly, the necessary PAUSE in the form of closure of existing FOB has been decided for a GOOD CAUSE of better infrastructure. The deck of the existing FOB had heavily deteriorated, the reinforcement steel was corroded and the structural steel was pitted & perforated of the south side FOB at Kandivali station. This FOB was repaired many times in the past and further repair was not possible. Hence, considering the poor condition of this FOB, it was more feasible to replace the south FOB with a new one. Moreover, there are three other FOBs at Kandivali station which are all in good condition for the use of passengers.
Shri Bhakar stated that planning of the new FOB has been executed in such a manner that there is least inconvenience to the passengers. Therefore, to minimize the closure period, the fabrication of all the steel girders of three spans and that of the columns has already been completed. The FOB is closed for the least period of time, where work of providing foundation of FOB shall be undertaken. All efforts are being made by Western Railway to ensure that the new FOB be completed well before the target date of 31st July, 2018.
Till such time, WR has taken certain measures for crowd management. Additional RPF personnel’s have been deployed to ensure smooth passenger flow and avoidance of any untoward incident.Commuters are requested to use Skywalk which is approx. 5m wide, connecting MCGM FOBto Main road instead of presently using staircase & escalator of FOB itself. State Traffic Department is being approached to shift the auto rickshaw stand temporarily to main road near skywalk landing. MCGM officials are also being approached to depute a person at the escalator for its smooth & interruption free functioning.
The width of the new FOB from East End FOB to Face of booking office on west side will be 6m and from face of Booking office to PF no.1 will be 5m as against the existing width of the FOB which was 4m. These structural reforms are being done with the passenger’s safety being given the utmost importance. WR is doing their best to make travel safe for the passengers and causing them the least inconvenience. It is reiterated that a little inconvenience caused today will go a long way in strengthening the future. Inconvenience being caused due to this, to all the passengers is highly regretted and cooperation from passengers is solicited by Western Railway.
