In yet another major accomplishment, Western Railway has added a milestone to its kitty by completing the rebuilding work on the west side of Delisle Road Over Bridge at Lower Parel station.

According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the dismantling work of the spans over railway tracks on the Railway portion was taken upby W. Rly and was completed in February 2019, in a record time frame of five months period. The work of dismantling of abutments was completed in the month of June, same year after the removal of encroachments by MCGM. Western Railway awarded the contract for rebuilding the Railway portion of ROB at a cost of Rs. 87 Cr. and the physical work of laying foundations for Railway span was taken up after the monsoons, in November 2019. The foundation work on east side was completed in May 2020and the completion of raft foundation work on west side in June 2020, amidst the nationwide lockdown due to the Corona pandemic. Considering the priority and importance of the work, all efforts were made by Western Railway to continue the execution of this work, despite the COVID pandemic and the monsoons. In continuation to these efforts, a major milestone was achieved on 10th January, 2021, whereby the rebuilding work of casting of west side pier cap was completed. It is worthwhile to mention that with this, the foundation and substructure work of the ROB is now completed with both the abutments/piers casted.

Shri Thakur stated that a total of 360MT of stainless steel along with 3700 cum of concrete (M-40 grade) was used in the substructure. The first girder fabrication was completed at Kota Workshop (1090 MT) and presently the final inspection by RITES is being done and will be transported to site. Till now, 260 MT of stainless steel for girder work has already reached the site.

It's worth mentioning that the Delisle Road Over Bridge at Lower Parel which is owned by the MCGM and crosses over the railway tracks, was found to be unsafe following a safety Audit conducted in July 2018. Hence, the Delisle ROB was closed for public use, both for vehicular traffic & pedestrians with effect from 24th July, 2018, for undertaking repairs to the bridge on priority basis. It was decided that the work of dismantling and rebuilding of Railway portion of this ROB will be done by Railway and the work of approaches dismantling and rebuilding will be executed by MCGM.
