WR’s PASSION FOR ‘HUNGRY FOR CARGO’

GM UPHELD THE TENETS OFRASHTRA PRATHAM…SARVADA PRATHAM, ANTYODAYA & SAMAJIK SAMARSATHA

Shri Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway attended the interaction organized & hosted by Umargam Industrial Association at Umargam, Gujarat o­n 19th September, 2021. o­n this occasion, GM Shri Kansal interacted with Shri K. C. Patel - Hon’ble MP of Valsad, Shri Raman Bhai Patkar – Hon’ble MLA of Umargam and representatives of traders & industries associations. GM also inspected the Churchgate – Virar section with respect to safety parameters and reviewed the progress of Virar – Dahanu quadrupling work being undertaken by MRVC as well as the status of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor including land acquisition process, etc.

According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Shri Alok Kansal - General Manager of Western Railway addressed the meeting convened by the Umargam Industrial Association & Umargam Passenger Association. While addressing the gathering, GM upheld the three tenets of philosophy driving the Indian Railways, viz. Rashtra Pratham…Sarvada Pratham, Antyodaya & Samajik Samarsatha. He informed that various demands of trader’s and passenger’s associations for provision of amenities and train stoppages at Umargam station is being looked into. He further stated that new FOB at south end of Umargam station will be completed soon for passenger convenience and additional UTS-cum PRS window will be provided, if required. As regard to train stoppages and additional trains, Shri Kansal informed that there were 10 pairs of MEMU/passenger trains operational during pre -covid times out of which 05 pairs of MEMU/passengers were restarted till date & remaining 05 pairs of trains will be started o­nce clearance from State Government is received as per the COVID-19 protocol. Also, the facility of Monthly Season Ticket (MST) resumed in select trains recently. He assured that all efforts are being taken to look into the demands presented by the Hon’ble MP as well as the representatives of passenger association. Shri Kansal stated that Western Railway is guided by the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas. He apprised that o­nce Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project of Railway gets completed, it will be possible to operate more passenger trains o­n main line having halt at Umargam station also.

In the light of the motto of Hungry for Cargo and with a view for enhancing the freight traffic, GM Shri Kansal apprised that at present the movement of products manufactured in Umargam industrial area through Rail is very meagre. Giving more insight into the infrastructural enhancements by WR, Shri Kansal informed that average speed of freight trains has been substantially increased from 25 KMPH to 45 KMPH thereby reducing the transit time, which can be benefitted to customers. He also highlighted that Railways has introduced various freight incentives schemes in Goods and Parcel suited to industry needs and urged industry people to avail the benefits of these schemes by transporting goods through rail. He assured them to provide faster transit services at competitive rates & urged them to divert their traffic through railways which is more economical, faster & also eco-friendly mode of transportation and to increase rail coefficient. A detailed presentation emphasizing the various integrated steps initiated by Railways was presented by Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Central Division. Shri Kansal also interacted with media representatives present at the function. Thereafter, General Manager took tour of Umargam Industrial area wherein he visited DOMS Industries Pvt Ltd which is engaged in production of wooden pencils & stationery items and Chandan Steel Ltd. He also reviewed the status of o­ngoing developmental projects works such as Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, construction of Road over Bridges, provision of Limited Height Subways, Foot over Bridges, etc.

Shri Thakur further stated that Shri Kansal participated in Shramdan event at Umargam station premises in view with the o­ngoing Swachchta Pakhwada alongwith other railway officers as well as representatives of Umargam Industries Association. He urged everyone present to keep the railway premises always clean & hygienic.
