NUMBER OF 12 CAR SERVICES CROSS 1000 MARK

WESTERN RAILWAY AUGMENTS 106 NINE CAR SERVICES TO TWELVE CAR

FROM 14TH APRIL, 2011

284 services converted from 9 Car to 12 Car since Jan 2010

 

    For comfort & convenience of commuters, Western Railway is converting ONE HUNDRED SIX, 9 car services to 12 car services from 14th April, 2011. This will increase the carrying capacity of these trains by 33 per cent and also the commuter comfort. In last one year 284 services have been converted to 12 car. Out of these 106 services converted from 9 to 12 car 61 are between Churchgate & Borivali, 27 between Churchgate & Andheri, 12 between Churchgate & Bandra, 3 between Bandra & Borivali, 1 between Mumbai Central & Borivali, 1 between Churchgate & Mumbai Central and 1 between Andheri & Borivali.

 

·106 trains i.e 35% of the existing 9 car services are being augmented to 12 car.

·Additional room created for about 1.25lakh commuters with this increase

·The total number of 12 car services on WR are now 1002 i.e. 83% of the total 1210 services

·By augmenting WR has been able to create more room for commuters without affecting punctuality

·Increasing 12 car is an important step towards increasing carrying capacity without congesting the section i.e. increasingthe trains.

·The 12 car services on WR have doubled in last four years where as the increase in suburban passengers has been 8.02% during the same period.

·There has been capacity increase of 27.7% in last four years whereas the density of commuters ie passengers per coach has reduced by 17%

·There has been an increase of 2.52 lakh passengers per day as compared to 2006-07 whereas increase in capacity has been for about 8 lakh passengers perday.
