WR’S 56TH RAILWAY WEEK AWARD FUNCTION HELD

April, 2011 at Y.B. Chavan Auditorium, Mumbai. The prestigious General Manager’s running Overall Efficiency Shield for 2010-2011 for best overall performance was bagged by Mumbai Central Division. Shri Girish Pillai, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Central received the shield from Shri Kul Bhushan, General Manager, Western & Central Railway. Shri Kul Bhushan also gave away 19 other Efficiency Shields to the Divisions and the units which have been adjudged the most efficient in various fields for the year 2010-11. Besides overall Efficiency Shields, the Electrical and Operating departments of Mumbai Division of WR bagged GM’s efficiency shield jointly with Vadodara division while the Mechanical deptt also received GM’s efficiency shield jointly with Ahmedabad Division. Survey & Construction departments of Churchgate received GM's efficiency shield jointly with Ahmedabad division.

 

On this occasion Shri Kul Bhushan, General Manager, WR honoured 192 individual awardees with certificates, medals and cash prizes along with 23 group awards for their meritorious service and outstanding performance during the year 2010-11.

 

In his address, Shri Kul Bhushan, General Manager, WR, extended his greetings to all railwaymen and their families on the occasion of 56th Railway Week. He congratulated the awardees for their outstanding performance and said that due to the joint efforts of all the officers and staff of Western Railway, it has been able to achieved a record freight loading of 63.27 million tonnes which is 8.57% more than the previous year. He said that WR started 13 new Mail/Express trains while increasing the frequency of 3 trains and extending 7 trains during 2010-11.

 

Emphasising the importance of Mumbai suburban section, Shri Kul Bhushan said that WR runs 1210 local trains daily carrying about 34 lakhs passengers. He said that WR is going to augment 106 nine car services to twelve car services from 14th April, 2011. He added that WR has augmented 284 nine car trains to twelve car trains in last one year. In last four years there has been increase of 96% in twelve car services.

 

Shri Kul Bhushan said that at present 71 Siemens rake are in service on WR. The work of conversion of DC traction to AC traction between Churchgate-Borivali is under progress and expected to be completed by June 2011. Western Railway and MMRDA have signed an agreement for the construction of an over bridge at Andheri for Versova - Andheri - Ghatkopar Metro line.

 

He said that top priority is always accorded to safety. There has been a significant reduction in the number of accidents caused due to human error as compared to the previous year.  In 2010-11, there has been a reduction of 47% per million train kilometres.

 

Western Railway is going to complete its glorious 60 years on 5th November, 2011. He also informed that Narrow Gauge system on Western Railway is going to complete 150 years in 2012. He hoped that the staff and officers of Western Railway will continue to achieve new heights with their hard work and dedication in the coming year.

 

Western Railway has retained its supremacy in the arena of sports by winning the prestigious Kaul Gold Cup for 18 times in a row.

 

Shri S. Bhattacharya, Chief Personnel Officer welcomed the guests. Shri Aditya Kumar, Dy.GM (G) proposed the vote of thanks. Shri S.K. Sharma, Addl. General Manager along with Senior officers & staff were present at the function.
