With a view to curb the menace of unauthorised booking and selling of Railway tickets during current summer season when there is a huge rush of passengers in the trains, WR conducted an extensive drive. During the special drive, total 68 touts were arrested, whereas in 2010, 25 touts were arrested in the summer season. A total of Rs.33.11 lakh was collected as fine as compared to Rs.14.25 lakh in the corresponding period of the previous year.
WR also took action against the offenders under various sections of railway act. 64 persons were arrested for alarm chain pulling, 2030 persons for unauthorised hawking, 2225 persons for unauthorised presence in handicap coaches, 924 persons for wrong parking of road vehicle and 33 persons for tempering/disconnecting/interfering with hose pipes, signal gates etc. during April 2011. As a result of this special drive, not only the day to day inconveniences of rail commuters were eased out but it also had remarkable positive impact on the working and the punctuality of Western Railway.
