Invites applications to authorize 243 Jan Sadharan Ticket

Looking to the increase in the number of commuters, WR is in the process of strengthening its ticketing system in order to reduce the queues at the ticket windows and give relief to its commuters. The number of daily commuters has gone up by 1 lakh per day i.e. it has gone up from 32.97 lakh in 2009-10 to 33.92 lakh in 2010-11. At present WR has 327 ticket windows over its suburban section which work in678 shifts. In all, at present about 33.92 lakh commuters travel on WRs Mumbai Suburban Section everyday while another 3.15 lakh passengers travel per day in mail/express and passenger trains on the Mumbai Division.
WR has installed 115 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) on its suburban section while there are 242 Coupon Validating machines(CVMs) for the convenience of the commuters. WR plans to procure 80 more ATVMs in 2011 and another 225 ATVMs in 2012.
In a bid to further facilitate the daily commuters and passengers by providing computerised unreserved journey tickets to them in their vicinity and to reduce the queues at theticket windows at stations, WR has invited applications for authorizing 243 Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sewaks (JTBS) at 37 stations of Mumbai Division. Out of these 37 stations, 31 stations are from Churchgate to Dahanu Road. Other stations where JTBS will be appointed are Vapi, Billimoria, Valsad, Navsari, Udhna and Surat.
Out of 243 JTBS, maximum 22 JTBS are to be authorized at Andheri from where 2.66 lakh suburban commuters start their journey every day, followed by 20 JTBS at Borivali from where 3.02 lakh commuters board the suburban trains per day while 12 JTBS are to be authorised each at Dadar, Bandra, Goregaon and Kandivali.10 each JTBS are to be appointed in Santacruz and Bhyander.
These JTBS will be authorised to issue Computerised Unreserved Ticket. WR’s terms state that the premises which will be used for issuing the UTS tickets should have easy accessibility to all citizens. The applicant should be local resident of the area served by the station. The cost of JTBS terminals, ticket printers as per Railway’s specifications & network channels will have to be borne by the applicant. The last date of receiving applications is 6th July, 2011.
The facility of JTBS within easy accessibility of the commuters will help in easing the rush at the ticket windows of the stations’ and in this way, appointment of JTBSs will further help in providing train tickets more conveniently to the commuters.
