13 MORE FOBs SANCTIONED ON WR FOR SMOOTH COMMUTER MOVEMENT
A new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) has been opened at Elphinstone Road station from Sunday, 3rd July, 2011. The new FOB on the south end of station connects platform numbers 1&2 with west side of the Elphinstone Road station.
With opening of this FOB the total number of FOBs on Western Railway Suburban section will become 88. The new FOB at Elphinstone Rd is 22 metres in length and 6 metres wide and constructed at a cost of Rs.80 lakh approx. The staircase width on platform is 2 metres while on west side landing is 2.8 metres. It will help in smooth commuter movement and ease congestion on existing FOBs at Elphinstone Road station. The FOB connects Balaseth Madurkar Road on west side and will be beneficial to commuters from the upcoming commercial hub in the area.
For easy dispersal of commuters and for reducing the congestion on existing FOB, WR is providing more and more FOBs. With the augmentation of trains to 12 car & 15 car, the increased commuter flow at stations is being taken care of by providing more FOBs and entry/exit points. In recent past eight new FOBs have been provided at Dadar, Bandra, Mira Road (two), Goregaon, Naigaon, Vasai Road and Nalasopara stations. One BMC FOB between Jogeshwari & Goregaon while two BMC FOBs between Borivali and Dahisar have been commissioned. Two more FOBs at Nalasopara and Bhayander (by MBMC) are under construction.
Thirteen more FOBs are sanctioned at Mahalaxmi, Dadar, Parel, Matunga, Vile Parle, Malad, Kandivali, Goregaon, Santacruz and Borivali including BMC FOBs at Jogeshwari (in lieu of LC 25), Kandivali (in lieu of LC 31) and Kandivali – Borivali.
30 new FOBs are also proposed for WR's suburban section. Connectivity to skywalks with FOBs is also being provided and 8 FOBs have already been connected to sky walks. 6 more FOBs are proposed to be connected to the skywalks in near future.
