Western Railway has registered a freight loading of 16.88 Million Tonnes which is 16.7% more as compared to the loading of 14.47 Million tonnes in the corresponding period of last year. During this period, among the major commodities, 45% increase was registered in Coal and 40% in container traffic. Western Railway’s freight earnings have shot up by 22.66 percent during the first quarter of the year 2011-12. The Railway’s freight earnings have been Rs. 1671.01 Cr during this period as compared to Rs.1362.33 Cr last year. The total earnings of Western Railway during this period has also been increased by 19%. Shri Kul Bhushan, General Manager, Western & Central Railways reviewed and appreciated the performance in a meeting of all Principal Heads of Departments of Western Railway, held at W.Rly. HQ. at Churchgate on 4th July, 2011. He also emphasized to ensure all possible efforts to make the performance better in all fields.
