In continuation with the theme observed on the second day of “Swachhta Hi Sewa” Pakhwada, third day also observed the “Swachh Samwad” theme on 18thSeptember, 2019 over entire Western Railway.Massive Shramdaan drives were organized for awareness to use bio-toilets. Anti-littering notices on all the institutions on the railway premises like railway colonies, rest houses, running rooms, health units etc. were displayed. Awareness made through Public Announcement Systems and through posters encouraging more use of paperless travel in all classes of travels. Feedbacks were taken from travelling public regarding cleanliness awareness including messages on 139.
According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, an awareness campaign cum Shramdaan was organizedover Mumbai Division atChurchgate station under the aegis of Shri Rajkumar Lal – Principal Chief Commercial Manager, HODs and senior officers of Western Railway’s Commercial Department. A nukkadnatak was also organized to garner attention of passengers crossing. At Marine Lines station, Shri Sanjay Suri – Principal Chief Personnel Officer of Western Railway alongwith other senior officers led the Mahashramdaan with focus on collection of plastic waste. Cloth bags were distributed among passengers by the Environment and Housekeeping Management team. Vendors were educated about ban of Single-Use Plastic below 50 microns. At least 6 large bags of garbage and plastic waste was collected in the Mahashramdaan drive.Smt. Uma Ranade – Principal Finance Advisor of Western Railway led the Mahashramdaan activities at Charni Road station. The EMU workshop at Mahalaxmi and Carriage Repair Workshop at Lower Parel organisedshramdaan activities where officers, supervisors and staff took part in large numbers. The drive collected ferrous, rubber and plastic waste. During the drive Supervisors & Staff were counseled for not using single use plastic & proper segregation & disposal of scrap materials.Many cleanliness awareness posters were put across stations and field units.
With these activities across Mumbai Division, all other divisions on Western Railway also observed the theme of ‘Swachh Samwad’ with full enthusiasm and participations in several events. Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Ratlam Divisions of Western Railway also organised “Mahashramdaan” drives over their areas, organised nukkadnataks to spread awareness about the importance of cleanliness and the menace of Single-Use Plastic. Those found using plastic polythene were given eco-friendly bags. Pamphlets were also distributed emphasizing 'Say No to Plastic’. Cloth and jute bags were also distributed among passengers to encourage eco-friendly options other than plastic bags.
