8THDAY OF “SWACHHTA HI SEWA PAKHWADA”DEDICATED TO “SWACHH PARISAR” THEME OVER WR

A Special cleanliness drive “Swachchta Hi Sewa” Pakhwada is being observed over Indian Railways with a view to ensure visible and tangible improvement in cleanliness at all its premises to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. In accordance with Pakhwada, 8th  Day of ‘Swachchta Hi Sewa’ Pakhwada was observed o­n the “Swachh Parisar” theme o­n 23rd  September, 2019 over entire Western Railway in which intensive cleanliness drives were organized in railway colonies, retiring rooms, waiting rooms, rest houses and dormitories etc over all divisions of WR. Plantation of tree and landscaping in the railway premises were also undertaken for beautification o­n“Swachch Parisar” diwas.

According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, as an unique initiative under 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' pakhwada, resident officers & their families of 14 Officer’s Flats, Mumbai Central station collaborated with award winning NGO eArth Samvarta Foundation (eSF) as knowledge partner, to conduct a Safai Shramdaan. o­n this occasion cleanliness pledge was administered to all by Dr. T.C. Sharma – Additional Chief Health Director of Jagjivan Ram Hospital. The Officers' families, families of domestic helpers and Safai Karamcharis united together to clean all premises including servant quarters, with awareness sessions o­n reducing waste generation and segregation of waste at source. This is part of a sustained project to make 14 Officer’s flats a Model Sustainability Building of Western Railway in collaboration with eSF. “Swatchhata Awareness & Avoid Plastic Use" campaign was organized at Dahanu Road station with the help of an NGO ‘Jain Social Group /Dahanu and Dahanu Municipal Corporation’ along with students from *Babu Bhai Ponda Junior College at Dahanu Road Station. Rally was also organized at Station premises including All platforms with Banner, Posters, Slogans & pumplets & canvassing.

At Ahmedabad Division, supervisors & staff participated in cleanliness drive organized at coaching depot, Kankaria under leadership of Senior coaching depot officer in which intensive cleaning of depot premises as well as tool rooms was done. At Rajkot Division, Intensive cleanliness drive was carried out by officers and staff of commercial department at Rajkot DRM Office, wherein a lot of garbage, spider's web, unwanted files & papers were removed. Staff of personal department & 27 students of a school were participated in shramdaan organized at railway premises. Saplings were planted in a large number by railway staff at goods shed of Surendranagar station.

At Bhavnagar Division, Shri Prateek Goaswami inspected road side green nurseries at Bhavnagar Para Station. Officers and Cadets of scouts & guides were participated in tree plantation drive, which was organized at transit house, Bhavnagar Para. With an aim to motivate passengers to stand against use of plastic, Selfie Points have been provided at Bhavnagar Para station. The theme of “Swachh Parisar” was observed with great enthusiasm and participation in the other divisions too over Western Railway with several such events & cleanliness drives.
