WESTERN RAILWAY COMMEMORATED INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY WITH VARIOUS SPECIAL INITIATIVES & EVENTS FOR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Western Railway commemorated the International Women’s DayMarch ‘2020 with great fervor not only in its Headquarter’s office at Churchgate but also over all divisional offices at Mumbai Central, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Ratlam and Bhavnagar.
According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar- Chief Public Relations Officer of W.Rly, various programmes are being organized during the special campaign from 1st March to 10th March, 2020 on the occasion of International Women's Day at various locations of Mumbai Division of W.Rly. on 4thMarch 2020, a programme on mindfulness and meditation for women employees by Sumisha Shankar, ex Army Captain was organised, in which over 150 women participated. on 5th March 2020 programme on self defence training for women by Ms Amruta Jasud who is a black belt expert was organised in which over 100 women participated. on the same day, talk on breast cancer awareness for women employeeswas orgainsed by Tata Memorial foundation and Mukti foundation. on 6th March 2020, Walk for a Cause - on the cause of women empowerment was organised at Mumbai Central station in which more than 500 persons participated. A talk by Dr Pragnya Ajinkya, Psychological Counsellor was also arranged on awareness of sexual harassment, gender sensitisation and gender awareness, in which both men and women participated. A talk on Mental health awareness was also orgainsed. Looking at the current scenario, awareness regarding the Coronavirus was organised, in which the staff were educated on the precautions to be taken. The RPF helpline No 182 was also publicised for the benefit ofwomen passengers. Nukkad Natak on women empowerment were also performed by the students of railway school, Valsad. Lady officers interacted with the women passengers at Mumbai Central station and Borivali station.
It is worth mentioning that Matunga Road railway station of WR is completely manned by women staff. Being sensitive to the needs of the ladies passengers, Western Railway has separate ladies waiting room for lady passengers at Bandra (T), Udvada, Valsad, Bilimora, Navsari, Udhna andSurat. Baby feeding room has alsobeen provided at Palghar, Boisar, Valsad, Udvada, Bilimora, Navsari, Udhna,Surat and Nandurbar. Sanitary napkin machine in the ladies toilet has been provided at Virar station. The women’s day celebration was not just limited to the lady employees, but was also extended to the families of male employees. Sr. Railway Institute at Santacruz (East) is an ISO 9001:2015 organisation, and conducts various activities for the members of the institute and their families. The Institutehas its team ofYOGA TEACHERS and have conducted various Yoga Camps. on the occasion of "Women's Day" the institute organised a FUN-FAIR for the female members and for the spouse of members on 8thMarch, 2020. The members arranged stalls of variety of traditional foods from various regions, house hold products etc. The female members also performed dances and sang songs etc. It was a day filled with fun and entertainment.
