DESPITE TOUGHEST CHALLENGES DURING LOCKDOWN, WR ACHIEVEDEARNINGS OF MORE THAN RS 2667 CRORE FROM GOODS TRAFFIC
One More Parcel Special to run from Dewas to Nagpur
The country is facing difficult times due to the pandemic corornavirus affecting lives all around.In spite oftoughest challengesof transport and labour during complete lockdown and the current scenario, Western Railway has continued with its loading activities. one more special train is planned to run from Dewas to Nagpur on 28th July, 2020. Train No 00931 Dewas – Nagpur parcel special train will depart from Dewas at 20.00 hrs to reach Nagpur at 06.30 hrs the next day. The train will halt enroute at Bhopal and Itarsi junction.
According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur- Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly, since 22nd March, 2020, 10292 rakes of goods trains were loaded till26th July, 2020, whilethe earnings from the loading of goods traffic over WR, has been more than Rs 2667 crore. Loading in the 9624 rakes included variousessential commodities such as POL - 1107, Fertilizers - 1727, Salt - 559, Foodgrain- 105, Cement - 794, Coal - 409, Containers – 4877& General Goods - 48 rakes, totaling to20.98 Million Tonnes.In addition to this, Millennium parcel rakes, including milk rakes carrying essential commodities such as medicine, frozen food, milk powder,liquid milk and general consumer goods were also transported, mainly to Northern & North East regions.Total 20178 Freight trains were interchanged with other Railways, including 10082trains handed over and 10,096 trains taken over at different interchange points of Western Railway. During the period, important inward rakes such as 1338 rakes of Jumbo, 678rakes of BOXN and 574 rakes of BTPN were unloaded at various stations over Western Rly,despite shortage of labourers.
Shri Thakur further stated that, in addition to above goods traffic, since 23rd March to 26th July, 2020, commodities weighing almost 85 thousand tonnes have been transported by Western Rly through its 425 parcel special trains, which mainly included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc.The earnings generated through this transportation, has been approx Rs 27.07 crore. During this period, 64 milk special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of more than 48 thousand tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons, generating revenue of approx Rs 8.33 crore. Similarly, 346Covid-19 special parcel trains with a load of more than 30 thousandtonnes were also run to transport various essential commodities, for which the revenue earned was above Rs 15.41 crore. In addition to this, 15 indented rakes carrying 6493tonnes were also run with almost 100% utilization generating revenue of more than Rs 3.33 crore.WR has scheduled to run various timetabled Parcel special trains during lockdown period to different parts of the country. Out of these, one Parcel Special train departed from Porbandar to Shalimar on 27th July, 2020.
LOSS OF PASSENGER EARNINGS DUE TO LOCKDOWN
The total loss of earnings over Western Railway on account of Corona Virus, has been over Rs 1891.50 crore, which includes Rs 280.31 crore for suburban section and Rs 1611.19 crore for non-suburban. In spite of this, resulting to cancellation of tickets since 1stMarch, 2020 till 26th July, 2020, Western Railway has ensured torefundRs. 404.41 crore. It's worth mentioning that in this refund amount, Mumbai division alone, has ensured refund of more than Rs 193.78 crore. Till now, 62.15 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets over entire Western Railway & have received their refund amount accordingly.
