HON'BLE MAYOR OF MUMBAI SMT. KISHORI PEDNEKAR VISITED & APPRECIATED WESTERN RAILWAY'S JAGJIVAN RAM HOSPITAL
WR's JRH becomes first Railway Hospital in India to start Plasma Donation & Therapy for cure of COVID patients
On 30th July, 2020, Smt. Kishori Pednekar - Hon'ble Mayor of Mumbai visited Western Railway's foremost COVID Hospital - Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Mumbai Central to inspect and review the situation of the facilities. JRH is currently catering to not only railway patients but also Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) patients as well. Under the dynamic leadership of Shri Alok Kansal - General Manager of Western Railway, Plasma Therapy has been made possible in W.Rly's Jagjivan Ram Hospital, due to which JRH has got the distinction of being 1st Rly hospital over Indian Railways to start the provision of Plasma Donation & Therepy.
According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, various COVID recovered RPF personnel have donated plasma to ensure the availability of convalescence plasma for Plasma Therapy at JRH. Dr Ramesh Kumar- Joint Director ofJRH welcomed Hon'ble Mayor Smt. Kishori Pednekar on her arrival at hospital & briefed her about various aspects of JRH. Smt. Pednekar during her visit inspected all the facilities provided at JRH for COVID patients. She highly appreciated the working protocols of the hospital, its cleanliness and the availability of essential drugs including the latest Plasma Therapy as cure for COVID +ve patients. Smt. Pednekar especially visited the Plasma Bank created by Western Railway and appreciated the availability of convalescence plasma in railway hospital.It is worth mentioning that Western Railway's Jagjivan Ram Hospital is the first railway hospital to start Plasma Therapy among all Indian Railway hospitals and one of the five hospitals which are performing Plasma Therapy. Dr. Yoganand Patil - Sr. Divisional Medical Officer and Head of the Blood Bank at JRH informed that till date, JRH has collected 32 plasma donations from COVID recovered patients which were given to 22 patients and all of these 22 patients have successfully recovered from COVID-19.
Shri Thakur also stated that Hon'ble Mayor Smt. Pednekar who is a former nurse herself, also took the review about patients admission and cure procedures and was highly impressed by the cure discharge rate of thishospital. JRH has one of the best recovery rate in Mumbai and it is worthwhile to mention that on 25th July, 2020, Western Railway's Jagjivan Ram Hospital discharged its 1000th fully recovered COVID patient. Till 30th July, 2020 , this number of fully recovered patients has gone upto 1086. Shri Thakur stated that JRH has registered a recovery rate of 78% which is highest among all railway hospitals across the country. Smt. Pednekar also offered best possible help from BMC to the hospital in case of any need.
