A WEEK LONG CLEANLINESS DRIVE FROM 10th to 16th AUGUST, 2020 OVER WESTERN RLY, o­n THE OCCASION OF INDEPENDENCE DAY

As a mark of respect to our Motherland o­n the occasion of 74th Independence day of our nation, Indian Railways has decided to spruce up its premises by launching a week long cleanliness drive, which started from 10th August and will culminate o­n the 16thof August, 2020.

According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, in continuation to this nationwide decision, a special Cleanliness drive has been launched over W. Rly from 10th August to 16th August to mark the 74th Independence Day celebrations of our nation. This drive primarily focuses o­n the cleanliness of Station offices, colonies, work sites, water vending points, toilets, drains, edge of stations and other areas near railway premises with a special focus of railway tracks. Shri Thakur stated that with o­nly select special trains running due to cancellation of regular passenger & Mail/ Express trains o­n account of lockdown measures, W. Rly has seized this opportunity in its favour to clean the tracks with visible results. While focusing o­n cleanliness of tracks special attention has been given to collection of plastic waste along with other waste. o­n the first day of the drive, 184 Kg of Plastic waste, 1828 Kg of Dry Waste and 1190 Kg of Wet Waste were collected at Stations, Depots and Trains. Altogether, intensive cleanliness drive was carried out at 10 Stations, namely – Rajkot, Vadodara, Anand, Nadiad, Bharuch, Ankleshwar, Indore, Ratlam, Ahmedabad & Gandhidham, 15 depots and 13 trains (including EMU & Mail/Express).In addition to this, awareness drives urging the passengers and general public to keep the trains/stations and tracks clean are also being ensured. Awareness messages about cleanliness are being relayed through PA system at station for general public to cooperate with the Railways.W. Rly appeals all its valued passengers to join hands in this noble cause and help to break all the shackles of uncleanliness around us, as a befitting tribute to our Motherland, o­n this Independence Day. Under this special drive, various digital & other activities are being held in all the 6 divisions of Western Rly, with proper social protocol considering the present scenario of global pandemic.
