WR LOADED MORE THAN 12,700 RAKES OF GOODS TRAINS, WITH REVENUEOF RS 3339 CRORE DURING LOCKDOWN
Western Railway has continued with transportation through its freight trains and have done commendable work by loading 12,706 rakes of goods trains during the lockdown period since 22nd March 2020till 22ndAugust, 2020. This loading has earned a revenue of approx. Rs 3339 crore. The loading included various essential commodities such as POL - 1350, Fertilizers - 2328, Salt - 671, Foodgrain-122, Cement - 1027, Coal -470, Containers – 5892& General Goods - 56 rakes, amounting to 26.36 Million Tonnes to different states of the country, including North East region. In addition to this Millennium Parcel Van and Milk Tank Wagons containing various essential commodities such as medicine, medical kits, frozen food, milk powder and liquid milk were loaded to Northern & North East region. Total 25,007 Freight trains were interchanged with other Railways including 12,505trains handed over and 12,502trains taken over at different interchange points of Western Railway. During the period, important inward rakes such as 1649 rakes of Jumbo, 780rakes of BOXN and 698 rakes of BTPN were unloaded despite shortage of labour at various stations over WesternRly.
According to a press release issued byShri Sumit Thakur- Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly in addition toabove goods traffic, since 23rd March to 23rdAug, 2020, commodities weighing more than 1.04 lakh tonnes have been transported by Western Rly through its484 parcel special trains, which mainly included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc.The revenue generated through this transportation, has been approx. Rs 33.82 crore. During this period, 77 milk special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of more than 57,400 tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons, generating revenue of above Rs 10.08 crore. Similarly, 381 Covid-19 special parcel trains with a load of more than 35 thousandtonnes were also run to transport various essential commodities, for which the revenue earned was aboutRs 17.75 crore. In addition to this, 26 indented rakes carrying more than 11 thousand tonnes were also run with almost 100% utilization generating revenue of above Rs 5.98 crore.WR has scheduled to run various timetabled Parcel special trains during lockdown period to different parts of the country. on 23rdAugust, 2020five parcel special trains, left from various parts of WR viz Okha to New Guwahati, Bandra Terminus to Jammu Tawi and Dewas to Ahmedabad/Mumbai Central parcel special train. These included one indented rake from Kankaria to Cuttack and a milk rake from Palanpur to Hind Terminal.
LOSS OF PASSENGER REVENUE DUE TO LOCKDOWN
The total loss of revenue over Western Railway on account of Corona Virus, has been aboveRs 2255 crore, which includes Rs 339 crore for suburban section and Rs 1916 crore for non-suburban. In spite of this, resulting to cancellation of tickets since 1st March, 2020 till 22ndAug, 2020, Western Railway has ensured torefundRs. 417.97 crore. It's worth mentioning that in this refund amount, Mumbai division alone, has ensured refund ofRs 201 crore. Till now, 64.50 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets over entire Western Railway & have received their refund amount accordingly.
