WR LOADED MORE THAN 12,850 RAKES OF GOODS TRAINS EARNING REVENUE OF APPROXRS 3380 CROREDURING LOCKDOWN
Western Railway has continued with its transportation of essential commodities through its parcel special and goods trains. Inspite of labour constraints due to pandemic Covid-19, during the lock down and current situation, WRhas left no stone unturned to keep the chain of supply moving. This could be made possible only through the concerted efforts of the officers and staff of Western Railway.
According to a press release issued byShri Sumit Thakur- Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly, since 22nd March, 2020, total 12,853 rakes of goods trains were loaded till 24th August, 2020, while the revenue from the loading of goods traffic over WR has been approx. Rs 3380 crore. The loading included various essentialcommodities such as POL - 1370, Fertilizers - 2356, Salt - 677, Foodgrain-122, Cement - 1042, Coal -472, Containers – 5962& General Goods - 57 rakes, totalling to 26.69 Million Tonnes to different states of the country, including North East region. In addition to this Millennium Parcel Van and Milk Tank Wagons containing various essential commodities such as medicine, medical kits, frozen food, milk powder and liquid milk were loaded to Northern & North East region. Total 25,363 Freight trains were interchanged with other Railways including 12,679trains handed over and 12,684trains taken over at different interchange points of Western Railway. During the period, important inward rakes such as 1667 rakes of Jumbo, 785rakes of BOXN and 706 rakes of BTPN were unloaded despite shortage of labour at various stations over WesternRly.
According to a press release issued byShri Sumit Thakur- Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly in addition toabove goods traffic, since 23rd March to 24thAug, 2020, commodities weighing more than 1.06 lakh tonnes have been transported by Western Rly through its490 parcel special trains, which mainly included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc.The revenue generated through this transportation, has been approx. Rs 34.63 crore. During this period, 78 milk special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of more than 59 thousand tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons, generating revenue of above Rs 10.22 crore. Similarly, 385 Covid-19 special parcel trains with a load of approx. 35,700tonnes were also run to transport various essential commodities, for which the revenue earned was aboutRs 18.10 crore. In addition to this, 27 indented rakes carrying more than 11,600 tonnes were also run with almost 100% utilization generating revenue of above Rs 6.32 crore.WR has scheduled to run various timetabled Parcel special trains during lockdown period to different parts of the country. on 25thAugust, 2020four parcel special trains, left from various parts of WR viz, Bandra Terminus to Jammu Tawi and Dewas to Chandigarh parcel special train. These included one indented rake from Kankaria to Cuttack and a milk rake from Palanpur to Hind Terminal.
LOSS OF PASSENGER REVENUE DUE TO LOCKDOWN
The total loss of revenue over Western Railway on account of Corona Virus, has been aboveRs 2282 crore, which includes Rs 344 crore for suburban section and Rs 1938 crore for non-suburban. In spite of this, resulting to cancellation of tickets since 1st March, 2020 till 24thAug, 2020, Western Railway has ensured to refund Rs. 418.78 crore. It's worth mentioning that in this refund amount, Mumbai division alone, has ensured refund of Rs 201.74 crore. Till now, 64.64 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets over entire Western Railway & have received their refund amount accordingly.
