WR LOADED MORE THAN 13 THOUSAND RAKES OF GOODS TRAINS CARRYING 27.11 MT COMMODITIES TO VARIOUS PARTS OF THE COUNTRY DURING LOCKDOWN


Despitecomplete lockdown imposed from 22nd March, 2020 and the current partial lockdown, Western Railway has done commendable work by loading 13,043 rakes of goods trains till 26thAugust, 2020. This loading has earned a revenue of more than Rs 3432 crore. The loading included various essential commodities such as POL - 1389, Fertilizers - 2402, Salt - 685, Foodgrain-124, Cement - 1060, Coal -475, Containers – 6043& General Goods - 57 rakes, amounting to 27.11 Million Tonnes to different states of the country, including North East region. In addition to this Millennium Parcel Van and Milk Tank Wagons containing various essential commodities such as medicine, medical kits, frozen food, milk powder and liquid milk were loaded to Northern & North East region. Total 25,711 Freight trains were interchanged with other Railways including 12,856trains handed over and 12,855trains taken over at different interchange points of Western Railway. During the period, important inward rakes such as 1693 rakes of Jumbo, 797 rakes of BOXN and 716 rakes of BTPN were unloaded at various stations over Western Rly.

According to a press release issued byShri Sumit Thakur- Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly, in addition to above goods traffic, since 23rd March to 26thAug, 2020, commodities weighing more than 1.09 lakh tonnes have been transported by Western Rly through its497 parcel special trains, which mainly included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc.The revenue generated through this transportation, has been approx. Rs 35.58 crore. During this period, 79 milk special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of almost 60 thousand tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons, generating revenue of above Rs 10.35 crore. Similarly, 389 Covid-19 special parcel trains with a load of more than 36 thousand tonnes were also run to transport various essential commodities, for which the revenue earned was aboutRs 18.46 crore. In addition to this, 29 indented rakes carrying approx. 12,500 tonnes were also run with almost 100% utilization generating revenue of above Rs 6.77 crore.WR has scheduled to run various timetabled Parcel special trains during lockdown period to different parts of the country. o­n 27thAugust, 2020two parcel special trains, left from various parts of WR viz, Bandra Terminus to Jammu Tawi and a milk rake from Palanpur to Hind Terminal.

 

LOSS OF PASSENGER REVENUE DUE TO LOCKDOWN

The total loss of revenue over Western Railway o­n account of Corona Virus, has been aboveRs 2309 crore, which includes Rs 348 crore for suburban section and Rs 1961 crore for non-suburban. In spite of this, resulting to cancellation of tickets since 1st March, 2020 till 26thAug, 2020, Western Railway has ensured to refund Rs. 419.74 crore. It's worth mentioning that in this refund amount, Mumbai division alone, has ensured refund of Rs 202.27 crore. Till now, 64.81 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets over entire Western Railway & have received their refund amount accordingly.
