Western Railway's Jagjivan Ram Hospital (JRH) is renowned for offering best medical facilities and taking utmost care of the patients. This was more evident during the time of Covid pandemic, where the frontline warriors worked day and night for treatment of COVID patients. JRH has created a robust infrastructure, fully equipped with latest medical procedures for treatment of patients under one roof. In continuation to this, recently Shri Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway inaugurated the Hospital Information Management System (HMIS) at Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Mumbai Central which is implemented in collaboration with RailTel & C-DAC. PCMD alongwith other PHODs, senior doctors & RailTel officers were present on this occasion.

According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, with the implementation of Hospital Management Information System (HMIS), online registration, tele-consultation and disbursement of medicines will be made easy. The system will immensely help in enhancing operational efficiency of health activities, generation and use of data related to health of patients, creating Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and sharing the data across various railway health facilities. Through HMIS, all patient records, doctor’s prescription/consultation and lab reports will be made available for future reference.  Feature of self-registration is also available on this App. RailTel, a miniratna PSU of Indian Railways, has been entrusted with work of implementing Pan India Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) at 129 Railway Hospitals and 586 Health Units to bring the entire hospital management on a single architecture to provide faster and better healthcare. RailTel has also developed ‘Railways HMIS’app to integrate with HMIS. This app enables teleconsultation to help patients get treatment virtually for generic ailments. It also enables medical beneficiaries to access all their medical record at one place.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Kansal said that during this pandemic time, digitized healthcare is the need of the hour to provide seamless service. HMIS solution is going to cover the entire gamut of Hospital Administration with around 20 modules that are relevant to Railway Hospitals including Clinical, Patient Services & Ancillary Modules viz OPD, IPD, Labs, Pharmacy, Referrals, Medical Examinations, Sick-Fit Certifications, Reimbursement of Medical Claims etc. Through the ‘Railways HMIS’ app, patients will also be able get virtual consultations which will not only save them from Covid exposure but also minimize footfall in hospitals. Talking about the project, CMD RailTel said that the HMIS project implementation is a priority item so as to support the healthcare system during this ongoing pandemic and work has been completed at 156 Hospitals/Healthcare units across India. This system is fully integrable with National Digital Health Mission program of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The HMIS has been synchronized with various other digital initiatives of Indian Railway like Unique Medical ID (UMID), IPASS and ARPAN etc. and is capable of further such integrations as per need. Digitization of health data which is accessible through unique medical ID (UMID) of Railway healthcare beneficiaries is going to make the healthcare services hassle free and transparent. Patient can take OPD appointment by scanning the QR code through HMIS app This will bring improvement in patient care and patient services to approximately 10 million Railway health beneficiaries.
