Ratlam Division of Western Railway came into existence o­n the 15thof August 1956, under Divisionalisation scheme of Indian Railways. The rail link of Ratlam Division has a glorious history of more than 130 years. The Meter gauge section was started way back in 1874 while the Broad Gauge came into existence in 1893.

Ratlam is a major junction and rail division o­n Indian Railways on meter and broad gauge lines. It comes under Western Railways zone of Indian Railways.

 Four major Railway Tracks pass through Ratlam City, these are towards Mumbai, Delhi, Ajmer and Khandwa. 

           Ratlam division is contributing significantly in the development of social and economical conditions of the area by transporting various commodities like Cement, Clinker, Rock Phosphate, Sodium Sulphate, Caustic Soda, Soya de-oiled cake etc. from various loading posts.

Kalakund-Patalpani Section

Kakakund -Patalpani section has natural scenic beauty due to deep valley’s, gorges.The existing MG railway track passes through high embankments and deep cuttings, tunnels and via ducts, flora, fauna, water falls, natural springs, etc making it a potential tourist destination. A Heritage Train started between Dr. Ambedkar Nagar via Patalpani to Kalakund stations for tourist attraction. The major tourist attractions developed at Dr. Ambedkar Nagar ,Patalpani ,Enroute - Tantya Mama Temple, Patalpani fall, Valley view point,Enroute - Bridge no 647 and Kalakund station.

Ujjain

A temple town on the banks of the Shipra river where shaivites throng to the Mahakaleshwar (one of 12 Jyotirlingas) Hosts the Simhastha every twelve years.

Chittaurgarh

Spectacular ruins of the ancient fort of the Mewar princes, replete with the stories of valour, sacrifices of Rajputana ladies in ‘Johar’, the mesmerizing beauty of ‘Padmini’ and the unwavering devotion of Meerabai.

Omkareshwer

Ancient temple town on the banks of the Narmada, another Jyotirlinga.

Indore

The commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh made famous for its post sunset treats in the Sarafa Bazar and Chappan Dukan.

Maheshwar

The scenic fort with extensive ghats on the banks Narmada river was a favoriteof Ahilyabai,a prominent Queen of the Holkar dynasty, also a must visit destination for all fashionistas desiring to possess the Maheshwari weave.

Mandu

Situated at the Southern tip of the Malwa plateau.The place is famous for palaces and buildings build mainly by Hoshan Shah (1405-35) and Baaz Bahadur for his love interest Rani Rupmati.

Dr. Ambedkar Nagar

A delightful cantonment town famous for its leather artifacts and smocking embroidery.

Mandsaur

The Pashupatinath temple has a life size 8 faced idol of the Lord Shiva. This place is also famous for to opium cultivation.
